No worries I hope that solves it.

It might be worth looking into updating your video and chipset drivers so you can return hardware acceleration to how it was.

Let us know how you get on.

Ok then. I'll do that straight away. Thanks.

By the way, reducing the hardware accelleration as suggested by tashman847 (above) may have resolved the problem. I just dropped another shortcut into my 'Utilities' folder without any problem. We'll see and report back at the weekend.

Video and chipset drivers updated via Dell Support site. Driver acceleration returned to 'Full'. I'll report on the situation in a few days time. Let's see how things go! :)

Alas, the freezing effect produced when I right-click on a an icon (requiring a reboot) or when I attempt to drag-and-drop a desktop icon into a folder (requiring the use of Task Manager) has returned. I've reduced the acceleration by 50% again and will see if this has the desired effect. I'll report back in a few days.

The problem is still there, but I've noticed that it's usually there more so after I turn the computer on first each day and for a while afterwards. However, as the day progresses I find that I can drag and drop things without any problem. Something like an old guy who's rusty in the morning but loosens up as the day progresses. :) Also, if I drag the icon quickly around around the desktop before dropping it into a folder more success attends my efforts. So, although the 'difficulty' has not entirely disappeared I can work my way around it. Thanks for all your help, folks! :)
