Foxit has released version 1.3 ....
Foxit Reader is a free reader for PDF (eBook) documents. You can view and print PDF documents with it.

New features include "Type on any document" (click on icon with pencil in it) allows typing anything into the document. Options include font type / size / condense / expand / move / stretch field. Added text will be included in printed PDF, but will NOT save added text to the document.
"SnapShot" (click on camera icon), once active converts cursor to cross-hairs. Move to section you want to capture, hold left mouse button down, create your capture box, release mouse button, automatically sends it to clip board. Could be handy when extracting part of a pdf with added text you have typed into the document for fast email or thread posting.
Downloads as a zip file, contains two unique files which allow it to be stored in same folder as Foxit 1.2 PDF reader. Oh, also has a nice colorful icon for file association.

    Hi Dennis

excellent ! the "capture area of screen" is a useful enhancement and seems to work well.

I also grabbed the "Asian language pack" as I regularly attempt to decipher foreign data sheets and the like - not that I can speak the languages  but can often get what I need from tables of numbers etc so anything which helps the display can't be bad.

thanks for the news & best wishes, HJ

    Your welcome Hugh

Many PDF's are forms, which require filling in information. This new feature allows information to be typed into PDF form and printed out. Tried it, very handy feature. When you have "typewriter" active, the last icon on tool bar (looks like a little flame) provides a screen to change/keep your preferred default font / pitch and numerous print preferences.

Hmmm - rough "benchmark" measured on one of the lesser beasts (P54C 150MHz 48MB) - opening a 2.6MB pdf, lots of illustrations:

    Adobe 5: 48 seconds
    Foxit 1.3 : 6.2 seconds

(I have't got Adobe v6 on that machine yet. Not sure I'll be putting it there either...) :D

    best wishes, HJ

When Rockit posted Foxit Reader 1.2 back in Febuary, I had Acrobat 6.?? something on both XP and w98. Installed it, loved it, removed Acrobat form both computers and never looked back. Very pleased with Foxit alternative to Acrobat.

Thanks Dennis for the update, I've stopped using Acrobat as well when Rockit posted.

    Regards - Charles
