I have my fingers crossed for you but if not I think I would uninstall WOT add-on plugin since it's rating button is taking up space on the navigation toolbar next to the location bar. Maybe, based on your font size and other settings, this button is interfering with the showing and placement of the location bar.

All guess work, of course, but it is a good place to start. This must be uninstalled because a "disable" still leaves the button there but deactivates wot functions.

    Will wait for update.

    ===========
On further research I am only convinced more that WOT maybe the problem. See:
    wot bar placement

Notice complaints that the wot button (toolbar) is defaulted to place its self on the navigation toolbar to the far left. It has a history of going back there no mater where you place, move or hide it. A reboot of firefox will find it sitting back to the far left on the navigation toolbar. I can see where this may complicate or cause problems on the preferred placement of other items, such as Location bar. Just something to keep in mind.

    Goddez,

News: I moved the WOT icon to the right of the Search box, making it the right-most icon on the Navigation toolbar, where it's out of the way. I've now been through six shut-downs and restarts of Firefox, and one Windows reboot, and the WOT icon hasn't moved from where I put it, and the Location box is still there!

I'd like to stay with this configuration for a while. WOT seems useful, though pushy. If anything goes bad, I'll get rid of it as you recommend. Thanks!

44 addons is a nightmare to check. Do you need that many? I live comfortably with five.

    Westside,

I know 44 addons is a lot, but their variety and availability are what makes me want to keep using Firefox as my browser. Bottom line is that they all work, and with them Firefox does what I want and need to do. I keep adding them, one at a time, and see what they do for me. If they work I keep them, if they cause problems I get rid of them.

Just for the record, here's a list of what I'm now using:

    Must-haves (29):
    Adblock Plus 1.2.2
    BetterPrivacy 1.48.3
    Bookmarks Toolbar Button 1.0
    Clear Cache Button 0.9c
    CoolPreviews 3.1.0625
    FireDownload 2.0.1
    Flashblock 1.5.13
    Forecastbar Enhanced 0.9.6
    Greasemonkey 0.8.20100408.6
    gTranslator 1.0.3
    Hyperwords 6.5.4
    IE Tab Plus 1.92.20100607
    Inline Google Definitions 1.0
    InvisibleHand 2.4
    Nice Translator 0.3
    Nightly Tester Tools 2.0.3
    NoScript 2.0.1
    Nuke Anything (Enhanced) 1.0.2
    Organize Status Bar 0.6.4
    PriceBlink 1.2
    Quick Translator 0.5
    QuoteURLText 1.0.9b
    Reader 0.2.5
    Read It Later 2.0.6
    Resurrect Pages 2.0.5
    SmoothWheel (AMO) 0.45.6.20100202.1
    Stop Autoplay 0.9
    Tab Mix Plus 0.3.8.4
    Theme Font Size Changer 0.1

    Optional (15):
    Context Font 0.6
    CustomizeGoogle 0.76
    DVDVideoSoft Menu 1.0.1
    FireShot 0.85
    Font Finder 1.0
    FoxLingo 2.6.5
    Greasedlightbox 1.1
    Greasefire 1.0.4
    Map with Google 0.6
    Stylish 1.0.11
    Tooltip Plus 0.2.0
    United States English Dictionary 4.0.0
    WOT 20100503
    YouTube mp3 1.0.2
    YouTube to MP3 1.0.7

By the way, my FF toolbars and icons so far are all in their assigned places, after many restarts through the day. That Safe Mode excursion may have done the trick.

    Goddez and Westside,

I'm still getting along nicely in Firefox, after a whole day with no disappearances or unwanted changes. All my icons and toolbars are where I put them, after many FF restarts and a couple of system reboots. I've customized FF again as in my post #13:
I've arranged the Navigation toolbar a bit differently: from left-to-right are the Location bar, the Resurrect this page icon, the Search bar, the Web of Trust icon, and the AdBlock Plus icon.

Everything seems to be rock-solid now, just as I would hope it to be. I'll report back in a day or two, or sooner if anything changes. :)

Yahoo. Good job. One of those navigation toolbar locations must be a sweet spot of realestate and everything wants it. :D
