    Thanks Christer...

I was unable to find my profile path using the run command you provided. I did a search of the entire HD for "firefox.exe-profilemanager" & came up blank..

Either the name is incomplete or the switch is not working.. Each time error message said Windows could not find "firefox.exe-profilemanager "....

I did look and found duplicate folders with Firefox\profiles...
    1.... C:\Documents and Settings\name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
    2.... C:\Documents and Settings\name\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles..

FWIW... Each location had similar sub folders and the same profile name but content was not a match in size..

There were other Mozilla profiles but the file dates indicated that they were from earlier years.

    3.. C:\Documents and Settings\name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles
    4.... C:\Documents and Settings\name\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles..

I still am still restricted from viewing the Application Data folders in Windows 7.. and haven't found my notes to unlock. But that might be a good thing for now.. as I about ready to either uninstall all of Firefox and delete any folders left behind and start over with a new install or probably first try the Firefox reset option..

However now when I go to Mozilla-Firefox support pages there links seems to be not working.. I can't bring up there help screens other than the main one, all other links don't respond..

I do like your suggestion to rename my Mozilla profile folder and will do so as a safety net, might even try that on every Mozilla folder location..instead of uninstalling it..

It seems like you got it wrong: firefox.exe -profilemanager (you're missing the space before the switch)

    Thanks JSS3rd...

I did a search for my Firefox profile.ini files and found them at:
    1.. C:\Documents and Settings\name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox
    2... C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox

I don't have a "roaming" folder on my XP computer.. might have something to do with your custom install..

Since I'm having trouble accessing the Windows 7 Application Data folder..

For now I'm going try a "Firefox reset" to see if I can fix the issue I'm having.. and just import my bookmarks from IE.. might be the simplest solution.. at least I hope so..

Your right I missed the space.. So if I was to rename the profile folder I probably wouldn't be able to then delete the profile in profile manager.. kind of a catch 22 ..What if I just copied it to a temp folder them used profile manager to delete the profile.. would I need to reinstall Firefox to recreate my new profile?

My experience with Firefox is limited which means that I'm threading on "thin ice ". You can copy the profile folder(s) to a different location and then delete the profile(s) but I would leave the default profile alone. Unless something is wrong with your current installation of Firefox, you don't need to reinstall it to create a new profile. When you create a new profile, you can specify the location where the associated files and folders will go.

No, XP doesn't have a "roaming" folder ... it's a "feature" of Win7 (and maybe Vista ... never used it, so I don't know).

No. Since you'd already have the profile manager open, create the new profile right then and there.

    Christer...

From a test earlier using the "guest" logon.... I assumed that my "default" profile is corrupt. (Firefox worked as it should using the guest logon)

You mentioned you would leave the default profile alone...

The "default" profile is the only profile shown using the run command. So if I delete the "default" profile would it better to reinstall FF to automatically create a new "default" profile under my logon, or after deleting the "default" profile should I just try to create a new "default" profile using the "profilemanager" ?

I'm thinking that because FF worked OK in the guest account there's no need to reinstall it, unless deleting the default profile doesn't produce positive results.

It's either this option or the reset ff option.. any last thoughts?

JSS3rd..... I noticed you added as I was writting this.. guess I'll try creating a new profile and see what happens..

Thanks to all for the help..

I ended up doing a FF reset.. That saved all my bookmarks and most add-ons.. needed to some minor adjusting (fonts & size) but for the most part FF now works as it should.. AD-Block & the IE Tab are two of add-on items missing or so it seems..

I thought about creating a new profile in profilemanager but thought it would require a added choice of users when starting FF.. so I opted for the reset..

Thanks to all for the help...

It seems like you have solved the problem but a comment on the "default" profile:

When Firefox is installed and started the first time, a profile named "default" gets created automatically. I decided to create a new profile to use, named "Christer ", with the folders and files on my data partition. When I learned how to do that, it was recommended to leave the "default" profile alone. I forgot that you probably are using the "default" profile. Sorry about the confusion ... ... !

    Christer ...

The default profile is NOT necessary. I've been doing it the way I described in post #20 for years, with no problems to speak of. It's important, though, that you run the profile manager to locate your new profile BEFORE running FF for the first time after a new or reinstallation.

That said, it does help if you know your way around your computer's file system, which is why I usually work from within Windows Explorer, which is set up the way I want, not the M$ "out-of-the-box" way.

    Jim,
I too think that the "default" profile is not necessary. I was told or read somewhere that if "your" profile, created by yourself, gets damaged, FF will revert to the "default" profile. If that one has been deleted, FF will not run. That's why I keep it.

To each his own. I keep a copy of the profile folder on an external hard drive so if the normal profile folder gets munged, it's a simple matter to delete it and copy the spare over to where the normal folder resides.
