    Jim,

Before you do, let me tell you this. Most links open in a new Tab, without having to do anything. Note that I said most. Yes, I've done that hack also to move the "Open in new tab" to the top of the menu, but have now become accustomed to the second option.

Also, instead of being able to move the tab order, you can do that in Bookmarks. Open the Tab group in Bookmarks, and you can change the order by dragging the Tab to be moved to the position of choice.

Highlight a tab and click on the "Close" icon. Maybe it's because I'm not too keen on too many extensions, that I prefer editing in this manner...

    Hi Ramona,

Well, I already did, and now I'm sorry, as I can't seem to get TBE reloaded. For whatever reason, it's not listed on the Firefox extensions site, and I'm unable to get a successful download and installation from the author's website.

I agree that "most" links open in new tabs (or windows), but recently I've been having a problem with some links opening full-screen, with no Firefox titlebar or menubar, and no toolbars ... just a "close" button in the upper right corner. I'm unable to get back to the previous window (or tab) with my mouse's "back" button, and the only option left is to close the window, which closes Firefox. Consequently, it's been easier (using TBE) to force Firefox to open ALL links in new tabs.

Dragging tabs is another highly desirable feature of TBE. I can't use your solution, as I don't have a "Tab Group" in Bookmarks. I never used it, so I edited it out long ago, and wouldn't have the slightest idea where to look to put it back in.

I know how to close tabs the old-fashioned way and, until I can get TBE up and running again, I'll have to use it. Normally, with a "close" button on each tab I don't even have a "close" button over on the right.

I'm with you ... I don't like, or need, a lot of extensions and, as I said earlier, until I installed the PrefBar this morning, the only extension I used was TBE. Now, in my haste to find the answer to your question about whether TBE was necessary, I don't even have that.

And, the answer is: "for my purposes, TBE is almost essential. Firefox's native tab options just don't meet my needs (desires, wants, likes, what I've gotten used to). "

    Ramona,

How many times have you heard that followed by "I hear the mission bells above... "?

Just to bring you up to date, I just successfully managed to dawnload and save the TBE file from the author's site, then was able to get it installed offline. So, Firefox is back in business just the way I like it.

No matter what you've read, Firefox's native tab options have nowhere NEAR the features that TBE does. I'd suggest that you give it a try ... if you don't like it, you can always uninstall it (it's painfully easy to do   :(  )!!!
