Hi guys, recently i was doing a computer regarding the files association issued.
The files which that cannot be open is the shortcut link from the folders and the link from the Startmenu on My computer, Control Panel, My Document etc. Run lnk association fix before but it doesn't work for me. Try open others exe shortcut link is okay that's mean the association for the lnk is ok. Need someone to tell me what was the files association i should repair or any others way can solve this issued. I would be very thankful for someone who really can help me.

    Hi Jonny Bear,

I am having a hard time understanding exactly what your problems are. I am not alone since at least 45 members have peeked in here and none have responded yet.

I will try to to offer a bit of aid based on what little I can understand. You may want to consider rewriting this or asking a friend to do this for you. From what I can figure you've recently had and fixed an associasion for *.lnk recently. That is not your now, or at least the *.lnk fix isn't working for your current issue. You've described two, I think as follows:

    1) the, quote,
apparently doesn't work. What link? what folders? What are you trying to do and what happens when you do it?

    2)
" I assume your startmenu links for these are not responding.

    --------------------------------
Guesstimate on my part for the issues and possibly fixes would be:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/AllPrograms.htm Cut quoted snippet from the link as follows

    ====================
Past archived post, with a couple of ideas, including the possibility of account corruption and the creation of a new account taking care of the problem.

If I have understood correctly, this issue is with shortcuts that do not function. I may be wrong but, the easiest solution would be to delete the shortcuts and create new ones.

I can't think why or how these shortcuts could have lost their functionality unless some file corruption has occured. Thorough scans for malware and virusses would be a wise precaution before any other action is taken.

Hi guys sorry for the late of respond and thanks for the reply. My problem is when i try to open the shortcut link from the folder and from the startmenu the windows will prompt up a message told me that " "This file does not have a program associated with it" ". Shortcut from exe or any others files type is working fine.

So basically, if the shortcut does not point directly to an executable, it does not work. I am understanding, for example, that if the shortcut is pointing to something like a Word document, which by file association then starts up Word with the Shortcut document opening in it.
If this is the case, the LNK association is fine, the problem would be the program you are expecting to open and the file type associated with it.

Can we have some details about your computer and the OS you are using.

Also, can you confirm, it is shortcuts in your start menu that will not open and that all other shortcuts on the desktop are working OK.

If links to shortcuts have been broken it was probably due to some corruption or crash taking place. You said you have tried a link repair and it didn't work, was it this one http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm.

Have you run virus and malware scans?

We need more information in order to help you so please answer this and my previous post, then we may be able to make some progress.
