My External HDD doesn't make any reference to action nor active Only the HP System Partition has listed 199MB NTFS Healthy (System, Active, Primary Partition). My WDC My Passport Essentials shows only 465.73 GB NTFS Healthy (Primary Partition). Do you have a lot of backup data and photos on the drive in question.

Mostly data with very little photos, mainly software titles. With regards to ext HD, the information is : WD Elements 107c [K] 2794.36 GB NTFS Healthy (Primary Partition) - right clicking shows the "Active" greyed out. Since the several formats of the HD, has raised another fault, in that opening the HD it immediately open a software title at random. Only way is not to double click the mouse button.

Still struggling with the WD 3TB Elements HD to display correct Free Space. As I am running out of storage on another HD, purchased a new WD Passport Ultra 3TB capacity, this drive after saving a few software files, programs etc. notice the new drive displays the correct free space 2.57TB and capacity as 2.72TB. I have tried everything that I can think of, plus reading other people's recommendations, can not understand as both HDs are of the same capacity and manufacture but only the Passport shows correct information. Elements otherwise functions properly.

Have you tried deleting everything off the drive in question and then formatting it. Is the drive in question still under warranty. If it is contact Western Digital Support. Just change the country of origin to United Kingdom or post the Serial Number and I'll check it for you. Check Your Warranty Status

WD Elements 107c (USB) WCC4N5HK5A86 3001GB Smart status : PASS.
File system : NTFS 3000.42 GB Total Space. 2998.44GB Free space.
Above information as detailed in WD Digital Data LifeGuard Diagnostics - for Windows 7 8 8.1 10.

Drive about four years old from new. All software removed and formatted several times. Computer closed, removed cable and computer restarted without HD connected. Computer closed, HD reconnected and again a cold start. Error still persists. Seagate HDs display Capacity and Free Space correctly.
Perhaps above information will be of assistance to you and I appreciate your interest taken.

lj50 thanks for your suggestion, I will certainly contact WD. Incidentally, my new WD Pasport 3TB played up today as it could not be accessed due to an "Off Line" error and after long search in my note book found the solution, thank goodness.

Thanks for noting expiry date. As the HD is working satisfactory, in your opinion is it worth the hassle of sending the drive to WD? Over the years all the HDs made by WD bought by me, have plagued me with similar errors. The error in question is actually the second time, each time not a mechanical fault. The Toshiba 2TB, up till now has worked without similar fault, could this mean WD HDs being weak on this error. Thanks, Bobby.

I'm wondering if WD is even aware of this particular problem. If it's working properly then don't send it back, if it's causing problems then I would certainly contact WD to let them know what's going on their product. Stick with your new Passport it seems to be working correctly now. If you lost confidence in WD why not try another Seagate. I know LaCie makes a nice external HDD but they're a little on the expensive side. I know this is amazon but it's just to give you an idea of the cost: LaCie External Hard Drives. I hope all this helps you.

Yes very informative reading, I did not know of this manufacturer of hard drives. Prices appear to me as comparative to other HDs available in the UK. I will certainly contact WD about this error, no doubt will receive no reply. If I do, will certainly post any information in this Forum. Thanks again, Bobby.

I have lodged a work ticket with WD and at Google I read of the same error with WD Cloud, the writer states that in this case, WD refuses to fix error. Registering with WD forum shows any references to this error. Even after registering with the Forum, I fail to find of starting a new Topic but no doubt even with access will find this topic irrelevant.
Further checking WD Elements on my computer, find with Properties, that HD Icon is completely coloured purple -- Free Space 1.84GB - Free Space 2.72TB -Capacity 2.72TB. Error is most frustrating.

Wait for WDC to respond. WDC will not fix the drive. My experience with them is they send you an RMA when they receive the drive in question they send you a replacement. Just can't remember if they send a shipping label.

WD must think it is cheaper to replace than repair, a modern way to do business. As I read an article on "WD refuse to fix ". Thanks Bobby.

Checked Windows Explorer, HD disk under properties shows used space as !.84GB. A further check using Auslogics Disk Defrag, shows it can not defrag the HD. ADD does defrag all other HDs installed. Awaiting reply from WD relating to this error.

WD has responded, suggested that HD be checked with another computer and or be reformatted. I did inform them that HD has been formatted three times and that my other three external dives made by them did not have this error.

Tell them you reformatted the drive, tried it in another computer, and then tell them it produced the same error. So it must be their hard drive. I've never had a problem with WDC. I wonder why they're being so adamant against the idea of the drive maybe having a possible defect? Are they not standing behind there products like they used to?

WD want a Screenshot of the Window which displays this information ( I presume they mean the HD in Computers). They also want a Screenshot of the Disk Management Window. I have tried to carry out what they want but so far failed to do so. Help on how to carry out this procedure will be most appreciated. Thanks Bobby.
