Resolved External hard drive issue.

I have a Free Agent Goflex drive, when saving software or information, the LED fitted does not blink as other drives do when use of the drive. This makes it hard to know if the download is successful until a check is made after completion of the download.

 

I have another two Seagate external drives connected to computer and both do blink when addressed by a save or install of software etc.

 

Are they the same type of drives that work as the one that doesn't work? Did it ever work?

It never worked. I installed software Seatools, software stops running with caprtion:

Fatal Error - Device Discovery. Argument length must be greater or equal to zero. System . String mid (System. String, Int32, Int32).

What are views on this?

 

Maybe it was broke to start with. How old is it and what did the Manufacture say about this when you contacted them about this problem?

 

Bought late 2011. No information avilable from Seagate.

External hard drive works satisfactory, except fails to show any signs when in use.

 

I know that it works fine. Just thought that since you were wondering about the light, you could ask on their forums. If it never worked, maybe it was defective to begin with.

 

I too have a seagate external hard drive. The light on the front is the spiral logo. I fades in and out slightly when it is reading or writing. I suspect yours may be doing the same.

After some searching, it appears you require a software named "Dashboard ". I downloaded and installed Dashboard, in addition to the LED, two additional lighted bars are now observed on the FreeAgentGoFlex drive removeable base, all remain lit when HD is powered up. Software Dashboard allows a backup to be carried out, other functions are listed but not loaded for some reason.

 

Turns out that Dasboard software displays Seagate external HD installed, allowing to switch on/off the lED as on the base of FreeAgentGoFlex drive and little else. However, at bottom of Dashboard screen are four software titles all chargeable from $29. One title software, Instant Backup $29 appears to work, though at bootup is slows down computer by 20seconds. Trial version of Instant Backup appears to make a fresh backup each time a file is used or changed. Unlike Windows 7 backup, no dates are shown to enable a restore from any chosen date. Has anyone used this software title? how reliable and any information will be most appreciated.
