Armymom, What connection do you use between your laptops when trying to transfer files? Are you using Network or USB link or burning to CD or external HDD? You do need some physical means don't you to transfer info between comps? Neil.

thanks for the response, sorry for being awol, was ill & didn't want to deal w/the computer.
i was not able to delete anything from the RECOVERY disc. when i did the file transfer it was computer to computer using an online program.
i was finally able to reload the OS & it went to an open spot(C). i then reloaded the drivers, etc. it moved the RECOVERY info to the "D" & the "E" now down w/the media. when starting up the computer it automatically goes to a boot screen. i have to choose which program to open(it has 2 Windows 7 programs listed), after i choose it will then begin to load.it is running slowly and i get messages that it can't connect to the internet, however if i keep clicking the REFRESH button more often than not, it will connect. any idea what could be causing this? is it related to all of the recent issues?
I am getting close to taking it in but i'd rather try everything i can do 1st.
Any input would be really great. Thx

There is a lot of speculation and confusion going on and that's mainly because no one can see what's on your computer but you. If you got this computer brand new for Christmas, I must hand it to you, you did a great job of destroying your laptop in record time.
If you have a partition on your laptop called "Recovery ", Why in heaven would you want to wipe it or clean it? Dell doesn't have a reputation of selling "dirty" laptops.

Your best option at this point is to recover to factory settings. Insert the Recovery CD #1 in your drive and follow instructions. If you don't have Recovery CD's, you should be able to access the Recovery Manager by typing recovery in the start menu search, or at boot by pressing F8 and choosing repair. Sometimes a menu will indicate a special key like F12 to press to access the Recovery Manager.
Refer to the appropriate manual for your model at Dell Support for more detailed instructions.

I have to say that I agree with JCinvan on this one. I've kind of backed out because I can't see just exactly what it is you're looking at and although I have my thoughts on it, they don't really add up either. I hate to recommend something when I don't really know just exactly what it is we're dealing with here.

My guess is that the small partition is a recovery partition of some kind but after doing some searching on it, it seems a bit large for a Dell recovery partition. Also, it makes no sense that it is visible to you.

Now, it may well be that something went wrong and it somehow became visible but if it is a recovery partiton, it should be hidden and not visible to you in windows except for maybe in disk management. Even so, it shouldn't have a drive letter assigned to it. Also, if it's a new computer, I really doubt that Windows would be installed on a drive that small these days. It would fill up in a hurry. So, I guess there's a bit of confusion on my end. Only thing I can really suggest is the same thing JCinvan suggested. You don't have that much time into it yet, perhaps it would be best to just use the recovery disks to restore things back to the way they were when you got it. If you don't have them and want to do it, assuming I understand correctly that you deleted everything off the small partition, you'll have to call Dell and ask them to send you the recovery disks. They will, for a fee. It's usually not much though. They used to charge 5 dollars for the disks. Might be more by now though, it's been a while.

Other than that, I don't really know what to tell you. Things don't add up from here so I'm kind of stumped I guess.

I appreciate all of the responses. I do want to address something, however. As I've noted, I have, and used, the recovery discs. The Windows Installation disc is what initially started this whole problem. It apparently reacted poorly to interfacing w/my older laptop when I used the factory provided transfer wizard. After transferring things the computer began to have the various problems. I removed all of the transferred info. then did a scan to clean this up & then reinstalled the OS. However, the OS ended up in an odd location, hence the growing issues. I, a few days ago, did reinstall the OS & the drives. As I noted in my last post, my system has improved but it is showing a few new gliches.

Again, thank you all for your assistance. It's been very enl;ightening.
