    Good news :)
Yes, you have IE8 and this is the highest version you can have in Windows XP.

What you can try is to open IE, go Tools>Internet options>Advanced tab and click on "Reset" button.
Restart IE and see, if it's faster.

I'll mark this topic as resolved, but it'll remain open, so if any future troubles, post back here.

    Good luck!

Since I installed WOT, I'm getting many pop-ups at links for web sites (some that you would not be rated poorly, like the avast links you included in your reply. But, I know I selected "Light" level and I thought it said I would get pop-ups only for those rated poorly.

Sorry for another note. I'm getting alot more advertisement pop-ups since WOT install. I wouldn't think this has anything to do with WOT. I checked internet options and pop-up blocker is still enabled. Maybe I missed something with WOT install that would alleviate this. Maybe I should uninstall and go through again?

You should leave WOT settings at default. In case of "Warnings ", it should be set to "Normal ".
    WOT won't create any pop-ups.
    Does it happen in Firefox?
    Did you reset IE?

Yes, reset IE. What I'm seeing is the ads are at selected words or phrase in our posts where the font color has changed to green with double underline; words like, Advanced, Windows XP, first, pc, and pop-up blocker.
