    Hi Bob,

Try doing this with a blank DVD, D&D a file to M with a blank, close it out the way outlined, and lets see if the system can read that.

    HI bobm735,
As a latecomer to your thread, would like to try to clarify for myself what's happened so far. You got an exrernal DVD writer to move data/programs to another location, a very good idea, You dragged a backup file to the DVD, and now can't access it at your new location? It's a 00000001.rec file? Since you can't read it, it's probably been compressed by the program that made it. If you don't have that program on your present computer, that would explain your problem.

It appears that the current computer may be confused as to the address of the DVD writer in its system, but you did see the file and have it copied to the HDD, so that's not the main problem. It appears that we can't be much help if you don't know what program you've backed up. What exactly did you back up?

Is this a file I asked you to create this morning? If so, I think we've narrorwed this down to the problem being the file you brought from Michigan.

So if you can answer sparrow's question - what was the file and what created it, not how you put it on the DVD - you wrote you used D&D to do that, we'll know a whole lot more.

    Thanks sparrow :)

    Regards - Charles

    Hi Bob,
Still trying to clarify where we stand. Can you see the files on any of the DVDs using windows esplorer? On the keyboard: start > run > type explorer > hit enter, and use the mouse to highlight the DVD drive in the left window and look for the files in the right window.
