You're right, we are talking past each other. In summary, both of our approaches, though totally different, appear to work, and at this point we should probably end this off-topic dialog.

Yes, I do have a single partition [C:] on the master, and the slave [D:] is a copy which I create using Paragon Drive Copy 8 every two weeks.

Yes, I've read articles recommending the use of multiple partitions, with the OS, programs and data each in its own partition, but I, being poor with logistics and even arithmetic, decided long ago it just wasn't feasible for me to attempt it. Hence, the single-partition approach.

I often wondered why Karen Kenworthy called her program a "replicator" rather than backup, and what advantages it offered over Copy or XCopy. For me, Windows' NTBackup program offers everything a backup program should, plus the "shadow copy" feature, which Karen's program doesn't.

Your system is admirable. But IMO it requires a level of knowledge and expertise that I just don't have and wouldn't aspire to. In short, I couldn't do what you're doing.
