    Hi,
Sometime after turning on the computer I lose the ability to drag and drop from folder to folder and on the desktop. Please help.
    Thanks

System folders or folders that you made yourself?

Drag and drop between folders stops working.

Any attempt to drag and drop anything. It works after a reboot but sometime later stops working.

To help you answer MrBill's question:
System folders for this question = default folders created by Windows, as opposed to folders you created.

My suggestion is to check for a stuck Esc key on keyboard, or possibly another stuck key.

If this is not the case, then I suggest you read this post, then post the requested log(s) in the Malware and Virus Removal forum.

    Hi,
At present I can drag and drop anything as I recently turned on my computer. I am sure later today I will lose that capability. The problem applies to everything. System folders or folders that I made myself and that includes files and icons on my desktop.
    Thanks,
    Lewis

Malware is a potential cause of this problem. Did you read the info and start a post in the Removing Malware forum?

Sorry, but to be negative :p, I stopped using drag-n-drop back in Windows 95.

Many things that were unreliable in Win 95 are now super-reliable, but I still don't use drag-n-drop.

I go to Edit -> Copy (or Cut) and complete the transfer manually. [Or, often use the right-click menu, if the transfer is not very important.]

Drag-n-drop problems I would relate to the Windows Shell and/or a glitch in the registry.

If you find the cause, let us know. Otherwise, I suggest you copy/move files manually.

    Matt

    Hi Mattman,
I think you are right, I have been using your suggestions when the problem starts, often I need to move an icon and d&d is useful. I don't think I will find a cause although I may stumble one.
    Thanks,
    Lewis
