Oh, but we can be good stewards.
So let's not trash the place.

Yes it will extend the life. Not so much the LCD panel itself but the backlight. That is where most of the monitor power goes. On my system I have set the screensaver to black after 20 minutes. I power off the complete system every evening, not just sleep it like most do. Yes that requires only 2 minutes of IPL, but that's only once a day in the morning.

Think about it. If you use your PC 8 hours a day and sleep it overnight, it is using up 2/3 of its life in sleep mode. Usually only the monitor and CPU go into low power mode. Except for new systems, the hard drive keep spinning as do the fans, external modem, printer, speakers, etc. 3/4 life lost if you count weekends not in use (business units).

Also, unless you restrict the wake-up to ONLY keyboard or mouse activation, a modem call could wake it, and then it is full up for the timeout period.

The argument of on/off cycling eating life due to warm/cool cycling doesn't hold true any longer. That may have been true with heavy power floppy and hard drives, uncooled CPU chips and CRT monitors, but todays PC's are pretty frugal with power, and the temperatures are kept reasonably low, so heat/cool means very little.

    Thx for this JGB.
I checked my settings and backed the monitor turn off down to 20 min from 30 min.
