Does formatting really get rid of everything

    Hi.Folks, The question posed by 'CHRISP' interests me. I accept that all files cannot be removed rom the hard drive. Does this mean that if you browse a web site and read news reports etc that this information would be stored on the hard drive forever. Regards, William.

    It will be in your temp files until overwritten, and with today's huge hard drives, it's hard to say WHEN that would happen. You can clear your browser cache, but the data is still recoverable to people who know what they are doing. If you need privacy on your computer, strong password protection is better than trying to delete files. If you need to be sure your data does not fall into the wrong hands, choose a hammer or fire, and physically destroy the hard disk.

    I have no way to prove the corollary, though, the one that states: " If you fail to back up your necessary data, the chances of your computer crashing increase sevenfold ", but I know it to be true, due to experience. Sigh.

    I used to use Evidence Eliminator a while back. However, I just stopped using it.
