All good thoughts/suggestions and as was said earlier, it isn't going to hurt to try.

Couple of other things for consideration should these not work. Although its tough to tell, my best guess is that you have an IRQ problem at #11 between audio and USB and quite possibly something else. To potentially confirm this you can go to System Information and look at conflicts/sharing of IRQ's as suggested a few days ago. You can also find problem devices and forced hardware here - its worth investigating to try to further pinpoint your problem before you just start "trying things ". Secondly, there were a couple of USB patches released for 98 and at least one for 98se. Third, there is a skip driver utility built into 98 if you want to try to get past your currently installed OEM 4 audio driver and try something else. Fourth, when you go into BIOS you can reset configuration on the PNP page and let your system try to sort out IRQ's upon reboot. You should also look at your audio setup in BIOS and verify whether or not you are on enable, disable or auto along with checking out any Sound Blaster emulation - if SB is enabled (if available), I'd disable it unless you play DOS games. And, lastly - is your current USB setup native to the MoBo or do you have an add-on card installed - if add-on, uninstall it and move it to another PCI slot and reinstall it. That should free up #11. If native - disregard.

    Good Luck.
    ;)
