    Hello again quickshot,
So.. vueicons was on the fritz. I'm still not thoroughly convinced that it is the soul cause of your icon refresh problem. Time will tell.

    PONDERING........
Perhaps the cache file (which ever it may be) is not big enough and over time becomes to full to handle all the icons efficiently. Perhaps this is one of those 3rd party applications, that can't seem to keep up with the changes/patches/updates (security) microsoft keeps churning out. Perhaps Vueicons is having a problem functioning with a new protocol that may have been implemented by an update. If this is a favored application, often visiting the support site and looking for the most current or newest version or checking for patches or workarounds should become part of a routine. Perhaps it just boiled downed to a corrupt cache file.

MOVING ON TO THE SECONDARY PROBLEM....
Out of curiosity did "shelliconcache" file ever show it's face again?

    IN CONCLUSION.......
I'm glad you seem to have found a solution that has worked and your most welcome. Thank you for updating your post with the current outcome. :)

    Hi Pete C,

    I followed your instructions.
Is it correct that the new string now is in the right column of the Explorer (in the registry). So it has not been added to the other items down under the
    Explorer in the left column.

    Thanks in advance,

    Regards,

    Adriaan
