Currently running Vista 64bit SP2. When running other Windows such as XP & 7, I copy back my desktop icons and folders (excluding system folders & icons) to the new desktop when I've reformatted. My HDD is partioned as C & D, D being where I keep files and programs to copy back or run again. I create a new folder called Desktop "Something or Another" and I don't copy the Desktop Folder currently running, only its contents. Whilst I can open my Desktop Folder using Windows 7 64bit, when I try to do the same in Vista, it just won't open and reverts back to the desktop I'm currently using, albeit losing a lot a stuff on the desktop before it's fine again. Trying to open the folder in Safe Mode or with the anti-virus/firewall turned off makes no difference. How can I fix this please?

Just to clarify, you are using Vista, you reinstalled the OS, you created a new Desktop folder in the new install (there should already be one there - shouldn't need to make a new one).

If that is the case, you won't see those files because Vista is loading the Desktop for that account. Just copy the items to the user account desktop folder, then rightclick and select "refresh ".

Found the error of my ways. There is only one God, see http://news.cnet.com/8301-13860_3-10423985-56.html for Godmode. Tried to copy this and it knocked me out of 64bit Vista whereas it would have been alright with 32bit. Thanks for your help also, MitchellCooley.
