I set my Windows 10 Desktop Icons to my requirements, however without warning, Icons reposition vertically to the left hand side of the screen. What is causing this error. Thanks, Bobby.

Right click on an open space on the Desktop and in the menu which opens click on View and check that Align Icons to Grid is checked.
Then arrange icons as required and repeat above and click on Refresh. Icons should stay put.

Also check that nothing under Sort By is checked

I have had the same problem since the last windows update the icons every so often line up on the left hand side of the screen and no matter what I do it still keeps happening so I have installed desktop restore and use that to put the icons back where they belong

Problem was corrected for a few days, however today Desktop Icons were displayed on the left hand of screen (Vertical). Again it requires to be repositioned as wanted manually. What can be causing this? Bobby.

There are a number of possibilities and suggested solutions outlined here .....

Desktop icons rearrange and move after reboot in Windows 10

Deleting the Icon Cache would seem to be favourite as you have already done Step 1

FWIW - as I have around 70 icons on my desktop I keep a current snip of the Desktop on file to assist in positioning them if they get messed up.

Pete C, when I click [Desktop icons rearrange and move........], it opens but Malwarebytes that is installed on my computer, which in turn disallows my opening the above. It appears that Malwarebytes classes it as unsafe. I only have at present 22 Desktop Icons and if correct these icons can slow up computer start up.

I have no idea why Malwarebytes should see this well known website (The Windows Club) as unsafe As it happens I have a trial of Malwarebytes Premium running on my netbook - when updating the free version a premium trial is loaded by default which reverts to the free version on expiry).

I pasted the URL below directly into Firefox and Malwarebytes did not protest ....

    www.thewindowsclub.com/desktop-icons-rearrange-move-after-reboot

If this fails temporarily disable active protection in Malwarebytes.

Have Malwarebytes Premium for the past five years+ that never expires. Exclusion requires a Web address or Net code. In present post, what is needed? I have never or needed Bitcoin.

I notice that at present MS IE 11 is causing trouble at times. Is MS causing this in an effort for us to switch over to Edge? probably true.

Highly unlikely. I switched to Firefox some years ago because of issues with IE 11 - rarely any issues with Firefox.

I have just opened the link (Windows Club) in IE without any problems.

It also opens in Edge without problems.

Now I'll go back to Firefox;)

I've been experiencing loss of icon position intermittently over the years. A good workaround is to install this little utility called Desktop OK. It allows you to save a view of icons (keeps track of them by date), and if you lose your icon positioning, restore one of those, and they instantly rearrange to where they were.

Here is the link: DesktopOK 4.93 Save and restore the desktop icon positions.

Yes Desktop Icons today were reshuffled and required yet again a reposition of icons. I tried your suggestion to download a Free software to combat this error, without success..
