    I meant to go to Start> Search> For Files or Folders and search for jdbgmgr.exe.

    You may need to change your options in search to show system and hidden files.

    If you would like a very good search program that is faster and better then the XP one, try Agent Ransack:
    www.agentransack.com

    It won't replace the XP one so you can still use both.

    Footnote to last reply:
    When I go to search & type in System 32 files,
    the answer is always no files found???
    Is this normal, & how else can I find out what is in my System 32 files??
    Thoroughly confused by now!!

    You should know that the computer search is not as open-ended as an internet search. It only searches for files with the EXACT name you type. For example, if you type "system32 ", it will find the system32 folder. But if you type "system 32 ", it won't find anything.

    Just open search, click "More Advanced Options ", and check the boxes that say "Search System Folders ", "Search Hidden Files and Folders ", and "Search Subfolders ". This will slow your searches somewhat, but it will at least search everywhere.

    Then try searching for that file.

    Well, I am making progress, I found 3 system 32 folders, but when clicking on each one, the jdbgmgr.exe was not there!!
    So I think I will give up on this one, & try another day. Maybe, with any luck it will show up eventually, or am I just dreaming!!
    Thanks again

    OK.
    You really need only search for the jdbgmgr.exe file. It will tell you where it is located when found.

    If you ran the Run command as you should have and got no error messages, the file is probably there.

    To see if the jdbgmgr.exe is on your system now;

    Open Windows Explorer

    Click on the Magnifying Glass Icon (Search)

    In the block entitled "All or part of the filename" enter the filename jbdgmgr.exe

    In the block entitled "Look In" click on the down arrow and click on Local Disk C and then click on the search button.

    If the file is on your system it should show up on the right hand portion of the screen in a folder named C:\Windows\System32.

    Well it might have helped it I had type the name of the file in correctly. My dyslexia gets the better of me sometimes, Ha. Ha.

    The file you are looking for is JDBGMGR.EXE

    Try my directions one more time making sure that you use the file name listed above.

    I know your aware from reading some of the other posts to your problem and from some of the web-sites that you've been to that it is not crucial that you have this file on your system, but if the above suggestion doesn't work and you are still intent on replacing the deleted file, another option would be to obtain the missing file from someone else' system and copy it over to your C:\windows\system32 directory. The file is only 15 KB in size and could easily be put on a floppy disk or emailed.

    :)

    Hi Rod,
    I caught that mistake in the file letters, but still couldn't find it. But & I emphasis the word but, I do have the file, which I obtained from Kelly's Korner, (another help site for Windows XP) Now I just have to find out how to copy it over to my C:windows\system32directory.
    If you can lead me through this, I just might succeed it getting it back on my system.
    Thanks Rod,

    O.K. Now you're getting somewhere. To copy this file to the correct directory follow these instructions;

    Open Windows Explorer, click on the + mark in front of My Computer, now click on the + in front of Local Disk C:, then on the + in front of Windows, and then scroll down until you see the System32 file folder.

    Now go to where you stored the file that you downloaded from Kelly's Korner and right click on the jdbgmgr.exe file. From the pop-up menu that opens click on CUT. Then move your cursors back to the C:\Windows\System32 file folder and click on the folder once to highlight it (it should turn blue in color).

    Now right click on the System32 file folder and from the pop-up menu click PASTE.

    Everything should be back it way it was before you deleted the file. Just to be sure do a search for the JDBGMGR.EXE file as I outlined in my previous post.
