    Hi Pete and Christer,

As far as I can tell, Defrag is not cyclic in the sense that it will start at a set time interval, its triggered by idle time.

I get the request to start defragging at the same time that the system wants to start the screen saver.

What I'm going to do is install DK Lite on one of my installtions and see if it behaves the same way.

I'll do that after I come back from vacation - will be gone most of October.

    Regards - Charles

    Hi Charles!

There are two different "modes" to test, with the DKService set to automatic and set to manual.

    I will impatiently ...... :) ...... await Your findings!

    Hi Charles

I had at the back of my mind that there was an option in XP to optimise the HD when idle, but I can't find it at present.

However I did find this registry hack ....

    Optimize Hard Disk when idle

    Have a great vacation :)

    Hi Guys,

Installed DK Lite a few days ago and waited for any indication from SSM that the OS would initiate a defrag - there were none. So that answers that question.

In my research I did find out that another defragger, PerfectDisk, does not replace XP's auto function - haven't tried it personally.

    Regards - Charles
