I have a remote access client that I attempting to reload. In order to reload it I must completely remove the old client and all associated files. I have 2 files that when I try to delete them I get the following error: "Error Deleting File or Folder Cannot delete xxxxxx: (file name) Data Error (cyclic redundancy check). "

Have you checked your HD for errors?

Posting your OS & HD model will help.

I did not previously check my hard drive for errors. I just started a scandisk and found bad index entries. BTW, the computer involved is running WinXP Pro SP3.

Thank you for helping me see the tree trough the forest.

    :)

Scandisk will pick up obvious errors but the drive manufacturers diagnostic tools may determine whether or not you can trust the drive in the future.

I'd run a full non destructive test with the manufacturers software, post HD make and model if you require more assistance.

Thank you for your assistance, the Hard Drive is a Western Digital, Model WD300BB-75DEA0. I have downloaded and am running WD Diagnostics as we speak. This will take some time to complete. While I am waiting, allow me to ask; is it safe to clone a hard drive that has recovered from bad sectors or will the cloned hard drive have the same issues as the original?

That's an old HD for your system, personally I'd consider replacing it now.

Make a full backup now if you haven't already then do a non destructive test using WD Data Lifeguard software (select the version most appropriate but I'd suggest the CD Image, avoid the windows version unless neccessary) and post the results.

If you can, download and burn the CD on another computer. Avoid using the problem system for anything other than running the tests.

The cloned drive may have data errors but the physical integrity will be sound, clone the drive and make a backup of the clone, then try and recovery any data loss.

DO NOT be tempted to use the WD again, you may try a zero format and use the drive as a temporary storage device (not for crucial system or data requirements) but in my opinion it's served it's life, send it to silicon heaven.

Thank you for your assistance. I will clone the hard drive and then make the old one a skeet target.

Up to this point I have not posted my System Details because rarely am I dealing with issues with my "mother ship ". I have some 50 plus computers that I manage and it is impractical to list them all.

I will, however, take the time shortly to complete the profile.
