I am having a problem with my CPU getting used up 100%. No process is showing to be causing it but it usually just sits at 100%. I have gone through all the steps to make sure it isnt a virus, and it is not, and have disable all un needed startup services and programs.

The problem does not happen is Safe mode, and i was not able to do a fresh install, because it got hung up at the gathering files part.

I disabled my high definition audio and that is not the problem either.

Like Steve suggests, most likely you allowed WMP to find & share your media over the network, so you'll have to let it do it's "thing" till it has build the library.

Okay well i just ended that process, and it fixed the problem. Thank you for your help.

    Two more questions:

Is there a reason is was just sitting there (like the other computer was having a conflict)

    And

Is there a way to indefinitely disable this feature, so i dont have to suffer these problems?

Hi gomblue91. The Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service is one of those services that you can safely disable. Its a feature that can bog down your system.

Click Start< Run and type services.msc and hit enter. Locate and highlight the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service. Right click it and choose properties. When the properties window for that service opens under startup type choose disabled and then click ok. Reboot the computer. That will disable the windows media player network sharing service.

Thanks for the help with that.

One problem i am having now is that i cannot open WMP. It opens, and then closes automatically

Do you have File sharing or media sharing enabled in windows media player? See if you can open the options for media player and click on the Library tab. Then click on the configure sharing option and make sure the share my media checkbox as well as the find media that other are sharing checkbox are both unchecked. When done click ok. I have never heard of media player just closing because media sharing is disabled. Very strange.

Okay well i decided after all the stuff i had done that i would just do a clean re-upgrade of Windows 7, to see if it would ifx the problem. It did not and i am beginning to think its a driver problem or something.

I disabled the WMPnetwrk.exe thing and its now still going at 100% CPU almost all the time. At sometimes its still bareable and im able to surf the web and such, but when i get in a game of WoW and listen to music, it is SLoooooow. With 4 gigs ram, and dual core, its not right. It was working okay about 3 days ago so im just not sure what it is. The System monitor is very eratic, and changes which program is using a lot of CPU. It will go grom Digsy to exporer to firefox ect.

Any ideas what is causing this now?

Well I haven't used Windows 7 since its still in Beta but see if this makes a difference.

Open up the services window again. Disable the following services.

    Certificate Propagation
    Distributed Link Tracking Client
    Distributed Transaction Coordinator
    Fax
    Health Key and Certificate Management
    Microsoft iSCSI Initiator Service
    Netlogon
    Offline Files
    Parental Controls
    Remote Registry
    Smart Card
    Smart Card Removal Policy
    SNMP Trap
    Tablet PC Input Service
    Windows CardSpace
Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service
    Windows Remote Management (WS-Management)
    WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service
    WMI Performance Adapter

Note: The services that I am listing are services that are in previous versions of windows such as Vista and XP that I know are safe to disable. Therefore, they will have no negative effects on the system if those services are disabled. :)

Since you removed posts that included links to Taskmanager screen shots, I can't say much, except I think you have some bad 3rd party apps running.

Disabling services is a bad idea, and should never be needed to have a system running fine.

Interesting. If its not a windows process that causing CPU usage to reach 100% then it must be some third party software thats causing your CPU usage to reach 100%.

    Haha

after 3 years of torrenting theres no stopping this train now. If you are smart with your torrents and what you download you wont get viruses. I am almost positive it was not from torrents.

    Oh it was http://www.fileresearchcenter.com/applicationdisplay.html?id=5244

I think that i got it from accidentally downloading some program for my new presentation software. I think it was removed once i opened it from AVG, but i think it still lingered around.
