Sorry Lonny - did not work - the files are still there, when I ran dllcompare again.
At this stage of the game. Would it be feasible to (as most things have been cleared) to clean intall windows xp sp1 on - at the moment the computer has only xp. I undated my own computer earlier this year - so I could do that again. Would this work.!!

The guy is hassling me now to have the computer back.He uses it for research and needs to have google desperately - (still cannot get it).

Hi Lonny - think I'm going mad - dial out is ok - I had not got it plugged in !!!!

    Please forget that.

I have just picked up an error message while trying to go into google again it says

    res://C:windows/system32/shdoclc.dll/dnserrorhtm

never noticed it before - could this be significant?

Yes I did run hoster- should I do it again?

Lonny - I think they used the numeral 4 as short talk when they meant for to shorten the name of the .reg file or maybe because they are using older Regedit4 code so it will work on 9X/NT4.

It will certainly set lots of registry stuff to defaults but I didn't see any changes that concerned me. Here is the file contents so you can get an idea of what it is doing:

    %systemdrive%
    cd %systemroot%\system32

    ren D2KPAX.DLL D2KPAX.bad
