I worked on a desk top a while back and they had Google Chrome on it and removed it. They they could not connect. Drove me nuts till I figured that there was no default browser on it. I am not at an XP machine, but look in IE, look in Tools/Internet Options/Programs and see if there is a default browser or if it asks something about making IE the default.
