Connect HD from PC to laptop

my PC bit the dust. Is there any way I can take the Hard Drive from my PC and some how connect it to my laptop as a external drive? I would have to some how convert it to a USB invironment. I have some files on the Hard Drive I would like to recover.

What you need is something like this;

If your laptop has USB 3 port get a USB 3 case.

 

Hi rgaleh, I would add that you would need to establish whether your "PC" that "bit the dust" has SATA or PATA (IDEE) connection as you could end up with a problem trying to use the adapter suggested by Russ.
Unless the adapter has the ability to connect both types of connectors, check it out first. Neil.

 

rgleh: What do you mean by bit the dust? Did the power supply, motherboard, or hard drive fail. Is it a desktop pc, or a laptop pc?

 

Thanks for the input. My 6year old desktop computers mother board sizzled and I didn't think it was worth fixing if there was a way to connect my sata drive to my laptop. I will do some more checking to make sure everything is compatible with windows 8. Thanks again for the input.

Connect hd from pc to lap top

Doc I have ordered the adapter you suggested and will get back to you as to how it worked some time next month.. Seems to me to be pretty straight forward. I shall see. Thanks for your suggestion.
