No, it wasn't only happening on one site - it was happening on every site I tried to play an mp3 from.

I just went to that test site, and all the mp3 selections opened nicely in WinAmp. Thanks!

And the only reason for me to bother keeping QuickTime at all is that Windows Media Player can't download and install codecs when it needs them, because I don't have IE on my computer. I may remove QuickTime anyway - I don't do that much with movies.

The link on the first page doesn't seem to be cooperating at the moment - all I get is "...contacted, waiting for reply ". The MS link worked, but I haven't installed the 8 codecs, since I don't yet have the 7. But when I'm all done with these, I will go ahead and get rid of QuickTime.

    More thanks!

Keep trying the link, as I just got it to load in Mozilla, Communicator and Opera.

Well, the decision is up to you.

    (I personally LOVE QuickTime.)
Just be aware, if you don't have QuickTime plug-in installed in your Netscape, you cannot view PNG graphic files under Netscape, for sure.

Ramona, the link worked this time - it was probably just traffic to the server. I'll install the codecs as soon as I'm finished here.

Antony, I don't expect to have that much need for QuickTime in the future... but ya never know. (Of course, if I do, I can always download and install it yet again.)

Thanks to both of you for your help!

    a tip for downloading QuickTime,

while you are installing, you will download
    QuickTimeInstaller.exe
    and
    QuickTimeInstallCache.qdat

Save both of those files (such as zip them together) before you actually setting up.

So next time, you can use them directly.

I don't seem to have either of those files on my machine now, but that sounds like a very handy tip for the next time. Thanks!
