Inactive computer taskbar has turned grey, no internet?

[Inactive] computer taskbar has turned grey, no internet?

Hi there, recently.when i turned my computer on, the taskbar has.turned.grey. It looks like its an old version. There is no sound, no internet even though it still works, but the computer does not connect to it. i tried to restore the computer, but that also does not work. i dont have a anti virus protection. How do i fix this. Also how do i backup my stuff so nothing gets removed?
my computer is a vaio and it is windows vista
