A strange error has surfaced over the past few days. Computer starts up normally at each power up, except between 14.00hrs and 14.45 when only the Compac screen mode is displayed, then freezes. Only after several reboots are made, does the computer reboot fully with normall working.
It may have nothing to do with this strange error, but an E-mail received from Microsoft informing me that on the 19th September 2012 a download will be made to my operating system. Unfortunately, E-mail fully opened without any acknowledgement from me. Has anyone received this E-mail in the past few days? Computer scan shows no conflicks. Most probably, error is entirely mine.

That doesn't sound right. I'd check for Malware:

Read this post, then post the requested log(s) in the Malware and Virus Removal forum.

The chances of that email originating from Microsoft are greater than your chance of winning the lottery - it is not MS practice to email customers on spec unless, of course, you have signed up for a newsletter of some description. Unless you have done that or you have knowingly given MS your email address then it is a fake.

    You should check for malware.

NB Arie responded while I was typing.

I ran a Malwarebytes full scan - no errors reported. MSE full scan - no errors reported. I have known for some time, that Microsoft never contacts people by E-mail. My only E-mail address known to Microsoft is Windows Live Mail. My Post was to find out if anyone else had received a similar E-mail or as a warning to others, the E-mail heading and Logo is poorly reproduced.

That doesn't mean anything. Check the Malware forum & see what is required.

Since my last post, I carried out computer Restore to an earlier setting. Today, error was not evident as computer powered up as normal. I hope that error has been solved, only time will tell. In addition, computer is much quicker in carrying out task than in the last two days.
