Hello, starting a couple days ago I have been having trouble with my desktop. I will be on it and my monitor will go blank like I lost connection. The front light on the tower will stay on. Everything else is off, no fans running, nothing. I have to turn the power switch off in the back and wait 20-30min then switch it back on. It will work again from anywhere from 5 min to hours then turn off again. I opened it up and listened, when it shut off I just heard a click from the hard drive then off with everything except the light on the front and 1 green light on the motherboard. Maybe the click was just the hard drive stopping. I dont know. Please help!!!

    Hi ugotrocked,

I have seen this when a computer Desktop has had a build up of internal dust and the connections even inside the Power Supply do not continue the circuit normally. Thus it shuts down.

The best option is to disconnect all externals (keyboard; mouse; video; power; all other USB and other connections)
Take the side cover off (usually left side, with 2 screws at the back of the case)
    Take the computer outside
Then with high compressed air (these compressed air cans can be purchased from computer or electronic service businesses)
Blow out the entire internals, with special emphasis on PCI cards; Power Supply; CPU area.

Then return the computer, plug in the required externals and power cord
    And turn on and test.

    --------

Also note: To save you "20-30min "; if this happens again
    Remove the power cord
Hold the ON button in for 30 secs
Put the power cord securely back in
    Turn on

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

We encourage all members to complete their System Specifications which help us to help you :) Without them we are working a little in the dark in cases like this.

This may be caused by overheating or a faulty PSU (Power Supply Unit) - I would look at the former first.

Download SIW (which you will need anyway to complete your System Specs) and look under Hardware > Sensors and post the temps - see attached screenshot for what you are looking for.

When did you last dedust the computer?

Post the temps and we'll take it from there.
