Not sure if this is where to put this.

When word processing or doing email it's evident. Cursor is slow to respond at times. There is a delay between when I type and when cursor or letters appear on the screen.
    Did virus scan (Avira)
    Ran defrag

Use Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager when it happens and see if there is anything using a lot of resources.

Have you tried doing a system restore from before your computer started to slow down? It might seem weird, but I had an issue like this with XP and it worked for me.

The sys restore is a good idea, though I have it turned off for performance.

Hi Chas. Try following these steps to help make the computer run faster and more efficiently:

    1. Click Start< Control Panel< Uninstall a Progam and uninstall any programs that you don't use.
    2. In Control Panel under Programs and Features click the link that says Turn Windows Features On or Off and uncheck all the checkboxes except for Games, Internet Explorer 8, Media Features, Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1, Windows Gadget Platform, Windows Search, XPS Services and XPS Viewer. Click Ok when you are done. (If you use a Windows Feature that is listed then don't uncheck its checkbox)
    3. Download and run ATF Cleaner and select all the checkboxes in the program then hit the empty selected button, ATF Cleaner.
    4. Run Disk Cleanup. Click Start< All Programs< Accessories< System Tools< Right click Disk Cleanup and select Run as Administrator. Once Disk Cleanup finishes calculating how much space it can free up make sure that all the checkboxes are selected. Once all of those checkboxes are selected click the More Options tab and under System Restore and Shadow Copies click the Cleanup button. Click Clean up to delete all of the old System Restore points. Once thats done click the Ok button to perform the requested actions and click Yes when prompted to allow Disk Cleanup to remove unnecessary files on the computer.
    5. Disable any Windows Services that you don't use by following Black Vipers Services Guide.
    6. Download and run Auslogics Disk Defrag from here, Auslogics Disk Defrag.
    7. Download and run Quicksys RegDefrag from here, QuickSys RegDefrag.
    8. Download and run Autoruns from here. When you open the program click the Logon Tab and remove any programs that you don't need to startup with your computer.
    9. Could you let me know what security programs you have installed?
    10. How many processes are running in Task Manager?

Let me know if the computer is any faster after performing the above steps. :)

    Went through the entire list.
    Avira - Antivirus
    Comodo - Firewall

Will restart to see how she's running.

Everything seems fine now. No delay when I type. :)
    18 processes running.

    I've asked this before...

How do I keep WinMsgBalloon.exe from popping up at ea startup?
Comodo asks about it every time, and I've tried evey option, but it won't go away.

Chas I think I remember that we got that issue resolved a while ago with the WinMsgBallon.exe program starting up. I assume its the same file in this thread?

Anyway its great that your computer has 18 processes running and that its performing smoothly now.

You're right Evan, but after a little while it started showing up again. I'm told it's not harmful, just annoying.

I take it 18 is an acceptable # of processes runnning?

Yes it is acceptable. I wouldn't go any lower than that number otherwise you would risk losing parts of the functionality of your Windows OS. Having 18 processes is very good especially on a Windows 7 computer. You must have disabled a lot of stuff from running on the computer in order to get the number of processes down to that low amount.

Yes, I pullled off anything that wasn't absolutely necessary.
Thx a ton for your help Evan.
If you can figure out how to disable WinMsgBallon.exe, pls let me know.
I'll leave this thread open for a few days, just in case.
    Thx again. :)
