    Hi Everyone,
Yes I agree...Before I arrived at a similiar decision, I tried to exhaust all other avenues...Once again, I thank everyone for their great help, and will be looking forward to many more...

    Cheers

Everyone seems to be overloking the obvious - a probelm with the anti-virus. The PC works fine until this loads, therefore I suggest simply deleting it. Boot to Ms-Dos, as described earlier, and then locate the folder where it's located (most likely c:\progra~1\networ~1). Then type "path=x:\tools\oldmsdos ", where x is the drive letter of your cd-rom drive. then type " deltree" and the full path of the folder where the anti-virus is installed. This may take a while to complete (I've never tried it, but I know the more files and especially subfolders there are, the longer it takes). When this is done, try re-starting your PC. You will probably get an error mesage saying it was unable to locate a specific file. Re-instal and update McAfee, and see what happens. If you encounter the same probelm after re-installation, then put the PC out to pasture - but save the HDD, as any info on it is still retrievable in another PC

    Hi Ryder

I think you will find around post 19 onwards we talked about the anti-virus program being a posible problem and suggested ways around it.

I have to say I would love to get my hands on this machine!

    Regards

    markp62,
You're right I did miss that part. I suppose that's what I get for skimming rather than reading. Then again, if I actually read everything I read, I wouldn't have finished the latest Harry Potter in one day!! :)
