I'd like to install Adobe's Photoshop Album on my new computer but Win7 tells me it's not supported and quits the install program very early in the process. I also have Photoshop Elements 2.0 and was able to successfully install it. I know Album is an old program, but it's easy to use and I prefer it for much of what I want to do.

From what I understand, there are ways of making already installed programs compatible with Win 7 when upgrading to that OS from an earlier version, but I'm working from the opposite direction. I'm trying to install an old program on the new OS. How do I get past the error message I get so I can install Album?

Your signature doesn't always show. You should enter your System Details in your profile.

Arie: I intentionally included my system info in my initial post and also whenever I'm dealing with my own system. When I reply to someone else's thread or when I post a joke, I omit it to save space. Maybe I should have included it again in my reply to Steve R Jones, and I didn't mean for that reply to sound sharp. Sorry if I have transgressed.

Now, about that old program ...

You are missing the point :) Include your system details as outlined inthe link Arie posted - you will then see My System under your name in each post you make - see to the left of this post.

Somehow I'd been a member all this time and never knew about that. I thought my signature was where that info was supposed to be shown. Now that I do know about it, I'm 50% smarter!

I filled out the System Details as best I could without opening Belarc or Everest for what they can show me. I'll update the rest when I can.

    Your fix...

I ran into the same issue.

    1. The install "distrubtion" needs to be on your hard disk. Easy with a lot of the download apps or even a trial and then use your "key" to own it. In one case I think I copied the entire install CD. Then do this:

    2. You should have a file named something like "setup.exe" or install.exe

    3. Right click on this file in number 2 above

    4. Select Properties

    5. Select the Compatibility tab

    6. Enable the Run this program in compatibilty mode for and start with Win xp to see if the install runs. Also set Privilage level at the bottom of the screen to run this program as an admin

    7. Click OK and run your install.

    HTH :)

Steve_S: Bingo! Worked like a champ -- quick and easy. Thanks for the reply.

I'll mark this thread as Resolved now.
