i have about 6 security updates that fail everytime i try to update them. below is one of the examples. windows tells me there is no resolution for code 646. any advice?

Security Update for Microsoft Excel 2002 (KB973471)

    Installation date: ‎2/‎3/‎2010 4:38 PM

    Installation status: Failed

    Error details: Code 646

    Update type: Important

A security vulnerability exists in Microsoft Excel 2002 that could allow arbitrary code to run when a maliciously modified file is opened. This update resolves that vulnerability.

    From your link:
More info on Office SP3 HERE

You are also highly advised to update Vista to the current Service Pack 2 as well.

Error Code 646, means that you may be running in Safe Mode, if so boot to Normal Mode and try again
It can also mean that your Firewall (either Windows or if you a 3rd party firewall) requires disabling just so as to install the update
You may also need to temporarily turn off User Account Control as well.

    I hope this helps :)
