No - not really - just a bit more work :)

Uninstall IE7 - this will roll back to IE6 and must be done before .....

Uninstall SP3, you should then be back on SP2 .....

Then you're good to go on the Repair.
Don't follow that - SP3 came down on autoupdates if you had that option enabled. After the repair you will be offered SP3 through Windows Update.

Actually, when you have uninstalled SP3 see if the original problem remains. If it has gone consider sticking with SP2 - no less secure than SP3 providing you keep it updated. SP3 is basically a roll up of all the patches since SP2 - it does not include IE7 (or 8) - the 'new features' are minimal and buried deep in Windows and unlikely to be used by a home user anyway :)

Uninstalling IE7 rolls you back to IE 6.

omg even removing ie7 is not simple. When I click on it in add remove programs change or remove programs cannot be clicked on. Remove appears on the ie7 updates but not the ie7 itself. If I remove the updates 1 at a time will then I be able to rmove it? This is something I can usually do I feel really stupid now,

Sorry - I'm not having a good day today :( My printer just died, 10 days after the warranty expired, just like the one before which died a month after the warranty
Yep, that is by design' and it had slipped my mind - why do MS make some things so difficult? The answer is here .....
    and
So uninstall SP3 first, then IE 7.

Assuming the repair works out OK install SP3 first, then IE7. You will then be able to uninstall IE 7 in the future.

Somewhat concerned with the lack of contact since your last post - do hope this does not mean further problems.

sorry just got in and haven't started the repair yet. I managed to stop the automatic updates so didn't get ie8 phew! I am all ready to try the repair after eastenders, I will need to concentrate ;) I am back to sp2 and ie6 so all ready to go.
I did run an avast scan last night and there were 34 lines unable to be scanned. Alot of them are sbrecovery.reg and recovery.ini, tvdebug then the last one the zonelabs one that is corrupted.

Look on the bright side - you have backed up all the data - a clean install would be a hassle, but not a disaster, and probably beneficial :)

Just so you don't panic I got visitors last night so couldn't do it  I will be going home soon so will do it then. Could I give remote access to omeone to try and fix this problem or would it not work without the disk?

Well no hurry, but I must advise that I am away visiting my Sister from Thursday pm for a week and will not be logging on. If the problem is not resolved by then I will get another Team Member to take over.
I doubt either possibility would work - certainly not a repair install.
