If you or somebody you know is in College, you can get any version for $30.00 directly from MS. Any version for that price. My nephew was in Jr. College and he bought it for me. All you need is a College e-mail address and you are good to go. They send you the CD and not just a download from them.

Which (as I'm sure you know) is not in compliance with the EULA

He uses this computer quite often to do school work. He doesn't have MS Office and I do. :)

The disc's came from Canada originally. So they sent it to a different country???

Check Ebay. I'll bet you'll find one at a good price. I bought my Win 7 Home Premium for $50.00; I just happened to catch the auction at the right time.

I don't know whether this is true or not but someone from another forum wrote to me that:

The RETAIL packing of Window 7 can be transfered to another computer , but one computer at a time . Microsoft support included

But the OEM is only good for the one computer that you put it on . No Microsoft support included.

Does anyone know if that is a true statement or not.

Last night when I was searching the web I did see some Windows 7 selling as OEM & RETAIL.

Why I am concerned is that as for now I want to format my Laptop(running the dreaded Vista) and make a clean install of Windows 7 --- but my other concern is that I have a 10 year old Dell dimension which is still running great but I fear it may one day die on me & my plans are to build my own computer with help from a friend that I know who builds them and would not like to have to buy another Windows 7 package.

2 systems, two packages or a multi license.

You'll probably be best sticking with Vista on the laptop and buying an OEM 7 for your own build.

And yes you won't get official MS support for the OEM (you pay for what you get ;)) however there are plenty of unofficial sites like this that will give you support.

Thanks Arie--that's is what I am going to get and hopefully I won't run into the problem I've had with my Dell thru the years when the screen tell me to insert copy of disk. I will have it my grubby paw to do it.
