yes i've tried the modem detection wizard but it says that there are no new plug & play modems.

i've searched for drivers at driverguide but i couldn't find my model. this is very strange because they have really alot of drivers and i doubt that they don't have my model. i think that this model doesn't even exist. i couldn't find any writings on the modem which says what the model of the modem is. when i bought the computer i got a warancy and there it says ISDN GVC PI128 TA

Are there any yellow alert symbols shown in your device manager for "unknown device ", or "unknown communication device "?

If not, then your modem is either not installed, or dead, or the PnP service is desabled.

Did the service center not provide you with a written description of what they did?

    Hi Bilb0,
I have seen modems that have not been detected as hardware before, until drivers were installed (the modem does not have Plug and Play capabilities).

crny88, try those two drivers that I mentioned. The first is under the manufacturer Abocom, the model numbers are the same (the order of the numbers is not important), so I would expect they both use exactly the same chipset. Uninstall it in Add/Remove Programs or the Phone and Modems Options if it does not work.

The second driver is only just over 500Kb in size. I doubt it has an installer. You will probably need to extract the files into a new folder. Look through the files, find one that has the extension .inf, right-click on that file and select Install. Run the wizard and direct it to the folder were you extracted the files [use the button "Let me choose the drivers from a list..."].

You can try finding generic chipset drivers. You can find the chipset manufacturer by looking at the details on the main chip of the card. Put the details into a websearch and if you can't find the manufacturer's website, they will probably be at driverguide. You can post the details here if you like.

Try your best to find and install the drivers yourself. This is the sort of thing that will get you past being a beginner.

With all due respect, I too have seen such hardware, but not since the dark ages (Pre-Windows 95).

This is a PCI internal ISDN modem and therefore highy, HIGHLY unlikely to not be PnP.

Even still, assuming it might, against all odds, be non-PnP, the user would have to be aware of the devices manually set resources such as Device Interrupt, I/O port, Memory Range(s), etc, AND those settings would have to be manually set once the device is forceable installed to the device manager.

Hi Bilb0, I won't disagree, it was a one-off, but stuck in my mind because of that behaviour. It may have even related to the BIOS of the computer.

That reminds me of something you should do crny88. Shut down and remove the card, restart and install whichever drivers you would like to try. Shutdown and reinsert the card. If Windows has the drivers available when it detects the card, it may make the process automatic.

The other thing I might wonder about is if it might be a Winmodem. This type runs on Windows software rather than hardware. Try using the driver list in the wizard and selecting Winmodem under the Lucent heading. If you install drivers and they do not seem to work, remove/uninstall them the way I mentioned.
