Or you can try Revo Uninstaller. I've had a lot of success with Revo and no problems!! :)

Thanks for your suggestion dnmacleod. I'll start another thread if I am not successful. I don't want to hijack this one.

There have been a few times that I have had to delete all Java folders on the root drive then used the registry tool in CCleaner to clean all remnants before I could get a new version of Java to install. Many of the PCs I had to do this on were seriously messed up by their owners. On a couple I actually had to install an older version of Java after the cleaning then updating to the newer version. Once updated to the newer version I would then run JavaRa to remove traces of any older versions.

I ended up uninstalling the v6 update 31 that wasn't working, rebooting, running Javra, the JV power tools registry cleaner and reinstalling v6 update 31 and it worked.

To be perfectly honest, although I've used Revo to clear up loads of junk off numerous PCs, I've only used it once to clear up multiple Java installations that were causing a problem. Its a while ago now, but, as I remember, there were about 5 or 6 installations on that machine. It cleared all of them completely the first attempt - but then, I always use the advanced removal tool. I then simply did a clean install of the latest version and the problem was solved :)

Unless you absolutely need Java, best to ignore it. As in my case was plagued with errors reported by Microsoft Security Essentials, after completely uninstalling Java from my computer, reported errors ceased.

It is almost impossible to get by without Java. So much stuff needs it. Web pages and all. Not all of them, but enough.
