Cant install adobe reader

    hi could some one please help me i am have a problem installing adobe reader. When ever i try to install the software i get an error message as follows-

    error 1402 could not open key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\OpitionalComponents\IMAIL.
    Verify that you have sufficient acess to that key, or contact your support personnel.

    Sounds like you need to be an administrator of the machine.

    Actually that's not the form in which the detail is required (that's seen only in this thread) - see the link in Arie's post and click on My System alongside this post for an example.

    I had a similar problem on a client's computer, every attempt to install failed to write to various registy keys. Top solve it I entered the registry and changed the permissions of the keys to "full control for the user ". You can even add "Everyone + full control" if necessary.

    Just change the permissions back to the way they were after Adobe installs successfully.

    Sequence:
    1. backup any keys you need to edit by right click > export.
    2. edit permissions.
    3. install Adobe.
    4. merge the backed up keys by right click > merge.

    Don't attempt this unless you are confident working with the registry.
