Hi gpb59. What happens when you attempt to uninstall Java through the Uninstall a program window in Control Panel? Do you get an error message?

If you can't uninstall Java using the built in uninstaller then download and run JavaRa. Save the folder to the desktop. Extract the contents and then run the JavaRa program. When the program opens click the option that says Remove Older versions to remove the Java program.

Also please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions.

Note: A common error is to forget to show your System Details in your profile:

Make sure to do the above when entering your System Details, thanks.

a window comes up that (as it often does) than says something like an unidentified program is attempting to access ...., I then click allow, it will then says removing but it never gets removed. I'll do the other part when I get home to my computer later. Incidently, I has a virus removed a while back (by this board), and we tried to remove the JAVA then also but could never get it resolved.

Why are you trying to download 6.13? Do you mean 6.31 which is the latest version?

no, I have 6.31 also. I can't delete 6.13. Up until now it hasn't been an issue, but starting today, I couldn't launch a program called "market trader" from Etrade which utilizes Java. I called technical support and they tried several ways also to try to get the Java 6 update 13 removed but was unsuccessful.

What happens when you attempt to remove Java using JavaRa?

If JavaRa doesn't remove Java then try download and running the portable version of Revo Uninstaller. (Its at the bottom of the download link.)

See if Revo Uninstaller will be able to remove all traces of Java.

If the uninstall was sucessfull then Java has been uninstalled. The Java entry in Revo is just a leftover entry. If you want the entry removed, in Revo Uninstaller, right click the entry and select Remove Entry. Also I would uninstall all other older versions of Java using Revo Uninstaller as well.

Once thats done reboot the computer and then install the latest version of Java from here, Java Download.

I agree with Evan on this. Usually Revo will get it all. I have only seen maybe 1 or 2 times where the name still exist but the program itself is gone.

ok, that seemed to work, it still shows up in the control panel. When I tried to uninstall this time from the control panel, this time I get a message that says "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click Ok to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package jre 1.6.0_13mis in the box below "

You could see if it is listed in the registry. Start\Run\regedit. H_KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall. Check the entries listed in between the braces{numbers}. See if that works. You may have to restart for the change to take effect. But first backup the registry.

Maybe when the next update for Java comes, it will remove that entry. Just check every week for an update and than do it and see if it removes that 13 and also 31 which is the latest update.

Since the Java entries don't show up in Revo anymore, download and install the latest version of Java from the link in post #9 and see if it installs without any issues.
