All of a sudden, I cannot access the printers and other devices in the Control Panel. The green line takes forever to cross, but never gets to the end. I have tried System Restore to go back to an earlier setting (and may have to try a few more.) Also have done sfc /scannow), which showed no problem.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Neil,

No, only one of several printers shows in Device manager. My main laser printer and four others do not show. But I can access the printers in various programs. I hope this is helpful info.

Are the printer drivers all installed on your comp?
Go to > Device Manager > View > Show hidden devices. Neil.

This is knows as the Green Ribbon of Death.
    Usual cause is broken thumbnails.
Change the View to Medium or Small Icons, Details or List.

Changing the view to Details, Small Icons, etc., made no difference.

When I look at Hidden Files in Device Manager, under Printers, only one shows. The other printers are missing.

Problem solved! I had installed Comodo Anti-virus program and a browser called Comodo Dragon. To investigate the problem, I uninstalled Comodo Anti-virus, turned off Windows Defender and turned off Windows Firewall. Nothing changed. Realized I still had Comodo Dragon installed. Uninstalled that -- and everything is back to normal. All printers now show. Thanks to all for your help. How do I mark this issue as resolved?
