[Inactive] Can not update or turn on MSE

I looked at the Malware forum and followed the directions about Malware bytes I renamed Malwarebytes.exe to scanner.exe and it would not let me run it. I got the error...(Run-time error "53" File not found: shfolder) Updating Microsoft Essentials failed about a third of the way, pauses and times out and gives a timed out error. I can not update windows or MSE(security essentials). I tried safe mode and downloading Malwarebytes but I keep getting an error when I try to run it.
