I have been trying to download windows updates for a few weeks now. Every time i have tried to do this or any other update or program the same reason pops up, "Cannot be instaled because another application is already being installed, complete the first one first bla bla" I know i have ask this before but never seemed to have anymore problems until last few weeks.

I know someone sent me a list of programs that i can see whats running but im to scared to remove anything.

This computer which is a laptop windows xp is starting to have alot of problems like Scripting errors, system not being modified, after rebooting it will boot up all the way but it will just click off totally every time.

I only menstion all the extra thinking maybe some thing in that list could help some one thing of what it could be.

Thanks to all that will try an help.

Try booting into Safe Mode with Networking and see if you can download anything.

Try the Link below from MS and it should offer you Fix It. If it does, run it and see what happens.

To get into Safe Mode, as soon as you turn on your computer, start tapping the F8 key every second. Then it should give you 4 or 5 options. Choose Safe Mode with Networking. This will let you get on the internet. AVG is fine if you like it. I used it for years and never had a problem. I switched over to MSE because I wanted to try something different. MBAM is MalwareBytes. Very good program for detecting Malware/Spyware. There is a Free and a Paid version. I use the FREE one.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBA-M) to your Desktop from the link below. Do not download what the page below has to offer as it is an advertisement for something else. Windows will give you the pop up asking if you want to download it.

    http://majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=5756&file=9&evp=693ee0b20204960edfd909666f809b26

    * DoubleClick mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install MBA-M.
    * Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version if one is available. There are always new updates to the definitions.
    * Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then choose the drive(s) then click Scan.
    * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    * Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected if malware is found.
    * When MBA-M finishes, Notepad will open with the log. The log can be retrieved by opening up MBAM and clicking on the Logs Tab at the top of the program if necessary.

    Reboot the computer

Oh Mr. Bill I thought I was in big trouble after going in like you said in safe mode with networking. WOW
Anyway, I did that and all of a sudden a screen full of text scrolled down then just kicked me off line. The worse thing was i couldn't get my computer to come on. I would hit the power button and the light would come on for a sec. then off. I had to wait awhile before it would. So I thought I would go ahead and try it again maybe i did something wrong. Well, same thing happend.
So now i thought i just better try to get it back up and running. so i tried to boot in last configuration. it did the same thing twice.
I did get it going after about 45 min. Don't think i want to try that again.

Why would that even happen, i here people all the time using safe mode.
I was reading on another site and someone said just pull up task manager and click on the stuff i don't know and end the program. I did that then got busy loading some things on my desk top and it seemed to down load. Went to try and update windows and it down loaded them all....

Now how simple was that. But I'm sure going to pay attition from now on what i try.

Thank you very much Mr Bill.
By the way I did already have that program you talked about Malware etc.. i ran and updated everything i could.

    thank you again...

The screen full of text is normal. There is usually a pause part way thru then it will finish. I have been in Safe Mode a hundred times with different PC's and have never had a problem. Shuting things down in Task Manager can also get it so that you will have to Hard Boot to get back into your PC if you shut the wrong thing down.
As far as hitting the button to turn the PC off or on, sometimes you will have to hold it till it does it's thing.

Okay i did run the malware and came up fine.
Now with the task manager when i do this there is always just one on there running which is that darn Sonic program that i have been trying everything to get it off this computer. It pops up from the min. im booted pops through in the middle of things i maybe reading it just does what it wants to. When it pops up i click cancel on it and i have to keep doing this several time because it's not easy to close it.
I think i have asked the question about that here a long time ago. But when i do the think with task i don't see that sonic until i have to turn on my computer again. It wouldn't even let me log off when i done for the day with out going throw a but load of trying to get it cancelled for enought time to get shut down button clicked.

But anyway I thank you for all your help.
