c drive mess

i've installed XP 3 pro gold

the c drive shows used space 5.22 gb
but the files in it r just of 2.3 gb

i've removed all old data n recycle bin
still this problem occurs
plz help

 

likely one of three things:

1. the difference between how MS reports GB size and the drive manufacturer.
2. Memory allocated for System Restore is not reported as free but used.
3. Memory assocated for Paging file.

Check how much space is allcated to System restore and Page file and you may find what you are looking for.

Also remember that sectors on the drive cannot be shared. Once even a little part is used, the whole thing is reported as used.
