If you're trying to build a budget rig, my first question is "why Asus? ". Just for comparison's sake, I can get a fine non-Asus Nforce2 Ultra 400 board at Newegg for $60. I know you can't but I'm just trying to illustrate a point. I wanted an upgrade board for my business rig and was poised to get an Epox 8RDA3I for $60 but decided to "splurge" for a Soltek 75-FRN2-L for $74 because of the stellar reputation of Soltek boards.

Do you have to get a micro-ATX board?

I like Nforce2 for their nice dual-channel performance. I would add a mobile Athlon to keep down the noise. I have an XP1600+ in my business rig and my cooler is a bit loud and have an oc'ed XP2600+ in my gaming rig and it sounds like it's taxi-ing down the runway. Your accountant will appreciate the quiet of a mobile (with appropriate fan).

I have no clue what prices and availability are like in Sweden but you don't have to buy an Asus to get a rock-solid board.

    Gary,
    thanks for Your input!

I want to save the cost for a Graphics Card and searched for mobo's with integrated graphics. Of those, more than 90% are micro-ATX and the price range is pretty narrow. I selected Asus due to its reputation. It will actually go into an ATX case. The price is ~ $80.

Two boards were cheaper, ABIT VA-10 at ~ $67 and Shuttle MK40VN at ~ $73.

I concidered the Shuttle and swapping 1 x 512 for 2 x 256 since the Shuttle has Dual Channel DDR, and save ~$7. If You think that this would be as good as the Asus or maybe even better due to DC ...... ...... then I'll go for it!

(I will make my decision during the weekend and will order on Monday morning.)

This article could save you some cash. I've installed at least a dozen abit boards and I'm convinced they are as good as any and better than most.
Just 2 cents, for what it's worth.

The problem isn't the microprocessor. It's the chipsets they get built on. I was reading there may some issues with some SIS chipsets and WXP SP2.
