    So for the past MONTH to two months i have been getting hit with seemly random BSOD's up to 4 times a day. I searched thru most of the BSOD related posts here and checked all the easier stuff. But Ive finally given up and am forced to ask for help.

    Im at my wits end. Im ready to just toss the comp and start a new one. It was perfectly fine for a year. Stable for everything i threw at it, then it hits 1 year old and BAM BSODS 8 times a week. BSOD 2 times in the last 20mins but was fine for 3 days before hand.

    BSview sites hal.dll, ntoskrnl.exe, smb.sys, usbport.sys for the 1st one today, and Nwifi.sys for the 2nd.

    Apps open at the time. Yahoo IM, Xfire, uTorrent, kaspersky, Mozilla.

    any help would be much appreciated tia.

    Check out the integrity of your hard drive using the drive manufacturer's disk diagnostic software - preferably the DOS version if available ....

    Disk Diagnostic Software ....

    ExcelStore

    Hitachi/IBM

    Samsung

    Seagate, Maxtor, Quantum

    Western Digital

    Check your memory, noting ....
    The only satisfactory way of testing RAM is to test the installed RAM in various configurations. If you have a single module swap it around the slots. If you have a pair of modules run each one singly, swapping between slots; then run them in pairs swapping between pairs of slots. If you have 2 sets of matched modules do not get them mixed up.

    testing out my hdds atm. main hdd (holds my media ect) So far passed SMART, Short Generic and Self tests. Testing OS's hdd as well but SMART is passed running a long Self test on both atm.

    Would using Primex64 under the blend/custom setting for 8hrs count for ram? Prob not right.

    any other suggestions?

    Not familiar with Primex64, but the only true method of testing RAM is as I suggested, unless you have access to module test equipment.

    Normally I would suggest debugging the memory dumps with our Dump Data Collection tool. but unfortunately that does not run on x64 systems.

    well as i read in prev posts using ram testing apps like memtest86 and windows memtest is ineffective due to read only bits or w/e. But Prime64 (prime95 x64) actully uses the ram to hold data inorder to test significant amounts of data. But I will ofcourse try switching the ram sticks, and testing using 1 stick at a time. I doubt its ram but one never knows and it would give me a good reason to upgrade to some pc 10600 or some such.

    FTR speedfan reports psu voltages @ Vcore 1.24 (dips to 1.1x under full load (oc) ), +12V 11.99 stable, Avcc 3.33V stable.

    Edit**
    Main OS drive is clean on all tests. Secondary media drive passed all tests. No bsods yet. Ofcourse now that i actully want dump files comp refuses to crash :\

    2 bsods today. Utorrent and yim both open @ the time. nwifi.sys and tcpip.sys flagged during bsods (separately). 2 mini dumps(before yesterday) and 2 full dumps(today) saved.

    Switched ram module channels w/o any positive results after first bsod today.

    "tool does not support OS "

    Also I have kaspersky, and spybot scanning my comp. No "odd" software is installed on my comp, nor anything other then kaspersky on start up and MS services. But one never TRULLY knows. Tool was downloaded but OS not supported :D.

    BSOD on shutdown attempt powerstat blah blah.

    BSview sites intelppm.sys (chipset driver?), ntoskrnl.exe and smb.sys both sited in a c2 error previously. Failing powersupply perhaps?

    downloaded a prev mentioned tool to examine mem dumps. downloading symbols now >.> 227megs jeez. Will post dumps when i get back later today. Any other suggestions welcome. Suspect power supply going bad now as some of my case lights also happen to act odd (flickering/lack of activity ect) Spose we will see.

    Edit..(windbg)
    keeps saying the symbol path is wrong <,< is that why it doesnt work well with v64? :3

    Just crashed again. BSview sites -> ndistapi.sys (NDISTAPI.sys is a kernel-mode component that exposes connectionless
    miniport drivers to the TAPI device space. NDISTAPI accepts call setup
    and teardown requests from the TAPI service provider and directs such
    requests through NDISWAN to the correct miniport driver to set up,
    monitor, and tear down lines and calls.) ntoskrnl.exe (kernal something or rather.) pacer.sys (network thing) tcpip.sys( another network thing)

    EDIT Update adapter's drivers to most current available. Next step will be to either order new ram/new adapter.

    I'd start by removing any hardware not needed to run the PC, make sure the BIOS is updated & defaults loaded.

    that would be 1 stick of ram 1 hdd and my adapter if i were to run truly bare. Cant remove my vid card cuz my mobo doesnt have on board video.

    After updating my adapter's driver and making sure to remove ALL traces of prev drivers/software i was still crashing. HOWEVER when i switched to netgear's wlan app the crashes accorded faster. So far 2 crashes and minidumps saved. BSView sites intelppm.sys (again), ntoskrnl.exe (again), and oddly Wdf01000.sys which from a quick google search seams to be a logitech mouse driver, which i have but didnt download drivers for >.>. The 2nd dump of today sites AsIO.sys, intelppm.sys and ntoskrnl.exe. Both error codes are d1 but BSOD said Nwifi.sys was the problem.

    Im gunna try going a week w/o using my adapter and see if i get any bsod's. Im still almost positive that its the adapter.

    incase it helps heres the full run down of what BSview tells me.
    9/20
    Bad_pool_caller SITED -> hal.dll, ntoskrnl.exe, smb.sys, USBPORT.SYS
    Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS..-> nwifi.sys
    9/22
    DRIVER_POWER_STATE..-> intelppm.sys, ntoskrnl.exe, smb.sys
    9/23
    bad_pool_caller -> ndistapi.sys, ntoskrnl.exe, pacer.sys, tcpip.sys
    9/24
    DRIVER_IRQL... -> intelppm.sys, ntoskrnl.exe, Wdf01000.sys
    DRIVER_IRQL.. -> AsIO.sys, intelppm.sys, ntoskrnl.exe

    EDIT*

    Just got another BSOD ill add it to the list :\
    Bad_pool_caller -> ecache.sys, ntoskrnl.exe, volsnap.sys

    Also would using readyboost effect my chance of crashing either + or -?

    Format & reinstall...

    Although with that many crashes I have to assume you are either over-clocking your hardware or have some serious faulty hardware.

    well i was overclocking before it started, once it hit I stopped overclocking and was still crashing, so then i formatted which seemed to fix it for a little bit, but... well as you can see it didnt fix it. I was going to reformat and reinstall drivers for everything clean and fresh this weekend while watching a house for someone but Ive forgotten my dvi cable :'( and ive no way to get it. oh the irony. Anyway. If anybody has any GOOD guesses on what is failing if its hardware im welcome to it. The entire system is 1 year old + 2 or so months. Only changes ive made to it since building was adding a new HDD, some new fans, and some case lights as well as changing over to a differnt adabter. Any way it could be the adabter at all? Or perhapes it just seems like that due to all the info passing thru the ram since ive gotten the new faster adabter, or perhapes it could be the power supply? IDK i just dont want to end up spending 600 or so on new parts when i couldve ended up with a <100 purchase ya know.

    EDIT* I might start with the ram since my ram is only 6400 and was running at 12800 speeds :3. So replacing that even if its not REALLY the problem could never hurt right? Next victom would be the g.card as ive noticed i can no longer overclock that puppie at all. And if it STILL doesnt work then the mobo <,< haha.

    Well, you may have caused irreparable damage overclocking... I can't tell you which component has failed, you'll either have to get your hardware professionally tested, or use the process of elimination to try & figure out which component(s) is/are the problem, but that could be a costly exercise.

    well i know that oc'ing can damang a computer however I was only ever able to get a +500mhz to the cpu. And It was only after being able to fix the cpu cooler. When I first built the rig the cpu would idle at 60-65c and underload would surpass 105c and thermal shutdown would hit. After I manged to get the cooler fixed and seated right it now idles at 45c and under full load doesn hit above 67c EVER. (65c using prime95 with 4 workers, 67c using intel's burnin test). And thats with an overclock. Could a failing video card cause these errors at all?

    Just got back home btw and had to boot into safe mode cuz I couldnt load vista. BSOD'd 3 times.

    Heres a few more bsod sites. Started uninstalling apps removed magic iso/disc, kaspersky 2010, shockwave player, a few other things and was still crashing. BSODs as follow in BSview.

    9/28
    Driver_IRQL -> ntoskrnl.exe
    9/29
    Driver_IRQL -> intelppm.sys, ntoskrnl.exe, rpsndr.sys
    Driver_IRQL -> ntoskrnl.exe, tcpip.sys
    Driver_IRQL -> ntoskrnl.exe, pacer.sys
    *removed kasersky*
    No_more_irp_stack_locations (possible bad ram according to this. -> Classpnp.sys, ntoskrnl.exe.

    the 4 from today started @ 840 (after i started downloading) and last one was @ 11:57. (im still downloading.)

    After the last bsod I uninstalled vistalogon (an app that changes the vista log on screen's background. No bsod's so far but ive said that before.

    I was on the computer all day connected to the internet w/o a problem playing Batman but once i started downloading within 20mins I crashed.

    I plan to do a fresh install even if i managed to solve my bsod's but if in fact logonstudio is the cause then it would of course be best to know so that i dont reinstall it.

    Yea, a clean install & making sure you have current drivers BIOS is best to exclude software problem(s) as cause for the BSOD's.

    Just finished a nice clean fresh install with everything up-to-date. All mobo drivers, audio drivers, video drivers ect ect. No bsod's YET, HOWEVER checking out event viewer shows me almost 2k events in the admin viewer. Just started checking thru the logs in more depth and about 1500 of them are "servicing" warnings. So im going to wait and see how my system reacts to a clean install. If event viewer spawns any crazy number of errors im going to get new ram. Will keep you posted.

    FTR the programs I have installed atm are.
    utorrent
    7-zip
    Adobe Flash Player 10
    Adobe reader 9,1
    Content Transfer (for sony walkman)
    Kaserspky 2009
    k-lite codec pack (for content transfer)
    Magic Disc
    MS vis. C++ 2005
    Firefox 3.5 (no add ons yet)
    Netgear WN*** adapter
    190. Nvidia Drivers/physx/Steroscopic (dont use)
    Realtek HD Audio
    Speedfan
    VLC player
    Yahoo Messenger

    Updates
    SP2

    Hardware (not mentioned in system specs)
    1 Seagate SATA HDD (ripped from external drive)
    1 WD SATA HDD

    1 dvd super combo driver
    1 dvd drive

    Saitek keyboard
    Logitech mouse

    I can't see that you mention a BIOS upgrade. The CPU requires BIOS version 0704 (or higher).

    The CPU might have had some pretty high temperatures by the sound of it. I set my alarm/shutdown to 70/75*C. I am not an overclocker though.

    RAM, have you checked the RAM manufacturer's website for if they say it is compatible with your motherboard? (Last time I checked, Asus don't make any compatibility suggestions on RAM).

    Matt
