BSOD - Gateway Laptop w/ Win XP Media Center 2005

    Trying to help a lady in an assisted living facility with her laptop. Blue screens before windows loads with the following error

    Stop: 0X00000024 (0x00190203,0x86741008,0xc0000102,0x00000000)

    she does not have the orginal software which came with the system. Not sure what to do.

    System Info: Gateway MX6920, Intel CPU, 1600MHz speed, 2048KB L2 Cache

    1 GB RAM in two sticks

    WD1200bevs hard drive

    Tried recovery option and it just sits there.

    Not sure what to do or what to tell her

    Any suggestions?

    Either a problem with the hard drive or the file system .....

    If you can boot into Safe Mode run chkdsk /r

    Thanks for the info and the article. Unfortunately I can't ever get it to boot to safe mode.

    Since she doesn't have the original disks for the system, any suggestions?

    I think I'll have to tell her she's going to have to get an operating system in order for me to get to the hard drive.
