    I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 with windows vista home edition.
    When I was on my laptop earlier I got the blue screen, and it said something about kernel stack and that the hard disk drive was no longer detected.
    This has happened three times now but my laptop still boots up, in fact im on it now tying this.
    I know you will need more information but any help will be greatly appreciated :)

    Thanks for replying, I do not know what the exact errors say/are as the blue screen disappears after seconds and then it says windows was shut down to prevent damage to your system and it then reboots. I have been trying to find a way to find the error log but I cannot find it as im really no good at computers :)

    If its any help, I have been onto dell support centre and run DELL PC CHECK UP 2, this scanned 27 things including two things to do with the hard drive and it never came back with any problem. The only thing it flagged is that I do not automatically update windows, but I turned this of on purpose as sometimes I would download something and it would cause problems.

    Right-click Computer from your Start menu, click Properties, then click the Advanced system settings in the left menu. Click the Settings button under Startup and Recovery, and uncheck Automatically restart.

    You can also check your Event log for information.

    To open Event Viewer, go to Start and type eventvwr.msc in the Start Search box & hit Enter.

    Check your System log under Windows Logs for errors.

    You can double click on any error for more details, and there is also a button to copy the error to your clipboard for easy copying & pasting.

    Hi Aries,
    I do not know if this is the information that you mean, but when I check the event log this is what I can see--

    <ViewerConfig>
    <QueryConfig>
    <QueryParams/>
    <QueryNode>
    <Name>
    Summary page events (1) (1)
    </Name>
    <Description>
    Critical events with event ID 41 from source Kernel-Power
    </Description>
    <QueryList>
    <Query Id= "0" Path= "System ">
    <Select Path= "System ">
    *[System[Provider[@Name='Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power'] and (Level=1) and (EventID=41)]]
    </Select>
    </Query>
    </QueryList>
    </QueryNode>
    </QueryConfig>
    </ViewerConfig>

    I do not know if its any help. The blue screen happened again and it gave me an option to run a test, this is what the screen said--

    ERROR CODE 0141
    Msg: ERROR CODE 2000-0141
    Msg: HARD DRIVE NO HARD DRIVE DETECTED

    It kept giving me the option to retry the test and the result was the same, it would not let me boot either. So I turned the laptop off and on and it was okay, after reading another thread it said about checking the BIOS, I think I found this and it said under Primary Drive-80GB HDD.

    Hope some of this helps, thanks for your help :)

    Im not sure if this has anything to do with it but I ran a scan with Spyware Doctor and it picked up two trojans, I have never had these before and let spyware doctor fix them. If its any help they were located in

    I'd start by checking the hard drive using the disk diagnostics from the manufacturer

    It also looks like Toshiba uses re-branded Fujitsu drives, so you could try their utilities too.

    Hi Arie, I tried to run both diagnostics but it says I have to be an administrator which I am so not sure why it said that.

    NOW TO THE EMBARRASSING BIT:eek:--when I was trying the things you suggested I realised that some on the side of my laptop was coming out, so I pulled it out and low and behold it was the HDD(I always thought it was located somewhere else but I was wrong again). When I turned the laptop upside down I realised that the screws for the HDD had come out so therefore the HDD must have just been sliding out every now and again. Anyway I put two new screws in and since then all is well and I think it has to have been that. Anyway im going to sit in the corner with a dunces hat on for a while. Thanks for taking the time to try and help and im sorry I wasted your time. :):):) I will mark resolved when I know you have seen its sorted :)
