I am working on an industrial PC..single board cpu. Recently I noticed that when the pc starts up, the post screen does not show up until the pc has reached windows (win2000). pressing any key or del key does not take me to the bios setup (which normally would). after windows starts up, everything works fine until a restart or shut down and restart.
    Any suggestions?

The only time I've seen this behaviour is when multiple gfx cards are connected (one onboard/one added perhaps?).

I can't recall the details of one particular system (only that it was XP) but the system steadfastly refused to switch the onboard off until it passed the bootstrap. All I could do was advise the owner that if he ever need to access BIOS then he had to use the onboard connector.

If you have a second connector try using that one and see if you can get into the BIOS from there.

Failing that completing your system details may help others answer your query...

If this is your main system it would be helpful if you add your system details to your profile. Please click on the link and follow those instructions it could save some time when resolving this or further issues.

A common error is to forget to show your system details in your profile

If you do add your system specifications be sure to do the above :)

As this doesn't appear to be your main system then please just include the details in your next post. Specifically Motherboard and Graphic(s) adaptors.

    Black screen on startup

This is not my personal machine but one that I work on daily. It utilizes a single card motherboard cpu unit (Rocky 3782EV) System specs: Pentium III, Celeron, VIA C3 with dual ethernet, VGA, Dual Ultra 160 SCSI ports. As previously mentioned, I was always able to access the bios by pressing the del key whilst POST was being initialized. About 2-3 weeks ago, I noticed that I cannot get to bios setup and whilst the POST is initialized, the screen remains black and furthermore, any keystroke (windows key, caps lock, numlock etc) has no response. When the black screen disappears, which is after some time, windows has almost started up.
Hope this helps understand the problem further.

OK, a bit of a long shot but maybe the CMOS battery needs replacing? A few pence (cents) so a cheap test, given the age of the system it would probably be needed soon anyway.

You could also try clearing the CMOS as indicated in page 10 of the manual (let me know if you need it).

Thanks Wildfire...I have the manual and I've also tried both clearing the cmos with jumper 8 and replacing the battery. Neither of them made any difference. I am going to try it one more time just in case this pc had a change of mind :)
