m3ow, I am not trusting or distrusting any body. I am just stating a fact.

When there are other free av certified by 3rd parties, why take chance ?

I've been using Avira on one of my computers for last 6 months now & had no infection. Firewall would only regulate the access. Its primary role is not to stop viruses.

For any security setup to succeed, its imperative that you have layers of security. If you depend on only one or two, you are sure to knocked out some day.

This is correct. I just re-loaded my main rig with winxp sp3 last weekend so I needed to reinstall Comodo Firewall. To install I had to download Comodo Internet Security...the install gives you an option to install either both AV and Firewall or individually. I opted for just the Firewall as I run NOD32 for AV on this rig.

AVG 7.5 was my antivirus of choice both for coverage and demands on computer systems
The current AVG seem to have not been as well received by many in the computer field
Overly demanding , not as good coverage and will not run on windows 98 , ME OS computers
The two programs that seem to be the most popular for for these purposes seem to be
    Avira company Antivir and Avast
Some say Avast calls many odd things viruses . However Avast runs pretty automatically wheras Antivir throws up a screen to purchase their professional paid product on every update
Avast need to be registered ( for free and by email ) during a time period wheras Antivir does not
By the way Microsoft has a long history of trying to get into the antivirus business along with poor products and little success
The company who sells you an OS with security holes ( but truthfully huge volumes of sales and the major virus writer's target) the fix . All for money.

So tempting, but I'll hold my thoughts on MS.
